Alex Ovechkin was visibly upset after the Capitals gave up the game winning goal to Boston in game 3 of the East Division Semifinals. There was definitely some sort of miscommunication between the Russian goaltender and defenseman Justin Shultz that led to the wrap-around goal by Bruins’ forward Craig Smith.
And right after this happened, there was Ovechkin….yelling at his Russian goaltender Samsonov. But what was he saying to him…
One Russian journalist said that Ovechkin was yelling “Don’t sleep bitch” to Samsonov. If that’s the case, it’s unfortunate that a guy of his caliber would steep so low to say something like that. Ovechkin has been in the NHL for 16 years and has only made it past the first round of the playoffs 1 time (the year the Caps won the Stanley Cup).
So how great of a leader is the “Great 8”? Ovechkin’s contract is up this year and it will be interesting to see what moves the Capitals make during the offseason. After another first round exit, it seems inevitable that changes need to be made throughout the organization. Boston handled Washington after the first game of the series. In fact, Boston went on to win the next 4 and outscored Washington 14-7 in those 4 games.
