2021 US Open Preview…Bring on Torrey Pines

The wait is finally over! It is officially US Open week in San Diego, California at the beautiful Torrey Pines golf course. If you remember back in 2008, Tiger won his 14th major title at the US Open which was also played at Torrey Pines in which he took on Rocco Mediate in a 18 hole playoff. The golf course is playing long, but nothing these guys won’t be able to handle. It’s a par 71 measured at 7,652 yards and pretty much the whole course is up against the Pacific Ocean which produces quite a bit of wind on the course.

Bryson Dechambeau is the defending US Open champ and will look to be the first golfer to go back-to-back since Brooks Koepka did it in 2017-2018. Wouldn’t it be something if somehow Koepka and Dechambeau were paired up together for a weekend round?!!!!

Jon Rahm has been playing some really solid golf this year and will look to build off of his performance at the Memorial where he was forced to withdraw after round 3 due to testing positive for Covid-19. Rahm would’ve had a 6 shot lead heading into the final round at the Memorial.

The US Open marks Collin Morikawa’s 50th PGA Tour start and he’ll be looking for his 5th win on tour along with his second major. If he could pull out a victory this week, it would e one of the most impressive starts to one’s golf career. Tiger won 6 times in his first 50 tour starts and had one major just to put things into perspective with how difficult it is to have success this early in one’s career.

I would say my dark horse for this year’s US Open is Cameron Champ at 150-1. Champ has shown that he can win out on tour and he’ll be grinding to try and get his first major victory. We all know he can hit it a long way and it’s only a matter of time before he’s back in the winner’s circle.
