Phil Mickelson has now won 6 major championships, including 3 Masters, 2 PGA Championships, and 1 British Open Championship. His most recent victory at the PGA Championship in Kiawah Island obviously came as a surprise for everybody. Would it be crazy to think that the momentum he has going could propel him into contention at this year’s US Open at Torrey Pines? The US Open is the last major that Phil needs to complete the praised career grand slam. Phil has had a fit trying to win his first US Open…as mentioned above, he’s got 6 2ND PLACE FINISHES! In addition, Phil has 4 other top 10 finishes in the US Open. One crazy stat I came across is that Mickelson hasn’t even recorded a top 40 in the US Open since 2013. Phil is aware that his time is running out to win one of the nation’s championships. He mentioned “I really don’t have many more chances.” after his tie for 52nd at the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2019. Phil is going off at 55 to 1 to win this year’s US Open and I wouldn’t be surprised to see people bet on him after his performance at Kiawah Island. I’m not sure if it will be this year, but it would be awesome to see the lefty capture the career grand slam before his time runs out!
